I just ran the web updater from the final beta to 12 and received the following when continuing the update in the browser:

The update was unsuccessful. 

Steps:

• Log into admin and start update
• Disable maintenance mode to continue update in browser
• Continue update, then fails.

This is in fact the 12 demo server I run and I can replicate it after each hourly refresh.
