Unread messages issue

I'm pulling my subscriptions from Feedly, where items are set to be marked read after 30 days. The same 30-day setting is in GReader. However, if I don't read an item within 3-4 days, GReader marks it as "read" regardless. On the Feedly side, those same items are still showing as unread, so it must be a GReader issue. Thoughts?
This started a while back, actually, but at first items lost their unread status after ~2 weeks; now it's just a few days.
