Hello. Thank you very much for providing us with great fonts.
I would like to report a request from native Arabic speakers to fix Noto Naskh Arabic as follows.

Where the font came from, and when

Font Version

  • Mac: Version 2.019; ttfautohint (v1.8.4.7-5d5b)

OS name and version

macOS Monterey (Version 12.6.5)

Application name and version

  • Sukun (Unicode: 0652)
  • Fatha (Unicode: 064E)
  • Fathatan (Unicode: 064B)
  • Damma (Unicode: 064F)
  • Dammatan (Unicode: 064C)
  • Karsa (Unicode: 0650)
  • Kasratan (Unicode: 064D)
  • Shadda (Unicode: 0651)
  • Sallallahou alayhe wassallam (Unicode: 0610)

Issue

Noto Naskh Arabic is a very beautiful font. However, the diacritics in this font seem slightly small and close to the letters. This can cause readers to confuse between these consonant pointing and diacritics because of their size, positioning or absence.

For example, there is a difference between the letter "AIN" with the superior diacritic "Sukun" عْ (Unicodes: 0639+0652) and "GHAIN" غ (without diacritic; the dot is part of the letter) (Unicode: 063A). However, they can appear very similar.

The word "people" (شَعْبٌ) uses the letter "AIN" with the superior diacritic "Sukun". It can be misread as the letter ‘GHAIN’, which changes the word in Arabic to “riot" (شَغبٌ).

If the diacritics are not big enough, the reader might struggle to read them, which will affect the flow of reading and can also change the meaning entirely.
Therefore, it would be appreciated if you could make the diacritics in Noto Naskh Arabic a bit bigger and spaced a little further away from the letters, similar to how they appear in a school book.

Here are the requests for each diacritic, explained by comparing them to three other Arabic fonts:
01 Sukun Fatha
The Sukun needs to be bigger than the dot that is beneath it (by maybe 30 or 40%). In addition, the space between them needs to be increased as well.
The Fatha needs to be enlarged by 10 to 15%. Additionally, it needs to be a little wider, thicker, and slanted. (The same applies to double Fatha and double Kasra)

02 Kasra Damma
The Kasra needs to be enlarged by 10 to 15%. Additionally, it needs to be a little wider, thicker, and slanted.
The Damma needs to be enlarged by 10 to 15%. Additionally, it needs to be a little thicker.

03 Shadda
Make the Shadda bigger by 10 to 15% so it matches the size of the other diacritics.

04 Shadda Dammatan
Shadda Dammatan needs to be enlarged by 10 to 15% to stand out. (The same applies to Shadda Kasratan and Shadda Fathatan)

05 Sallallahou slayhe wassallam
Sallallahou alayhe wassallam needs to be enlarged similar to the Sukun.

Thank you very much for taking this request into consideration.
