change group name convention

right now we give the groups names like event_table, particle_table, edep_table, hit_table etc etc. the _table nomenclature is annoying and needlessly wordy, so change this to just pluralise instead (ie. events, particles, energy_depositions, hits) to make things clearer and cleaner :)
