Can I filter only the files currently shown in the tree?

Consider this scenario: I have a tree where I expanded some directories, and kept some collapsed. Now I want to see all files with some extension, but only in the directories which are expanded.

The fuzzy finder/sorter will expand all directories.

I can of course use the built-in search (as suggested here ) highlight only the files with the extension, but it won't have the visual effect of having less files visible.

Sometimes this suggestion can be good enough, but mainly if I want only one directory. Plus it will still most likely expand other directories but the one I want.
