[Question] Do the created hosts files work alongside the System Hosts file and alongside each other?

I want to know if additional hosts files will work together with the original hosts file or if they replace it. Example: If I have 5 hosts files, each with their own list of IP's, as well as the original hosts file, will they all work at the same time?
