I think not only a static page, but also a short paragraph in the home page would be valuable, in addition to long-form essays or blog posts. Something simple, preferably with a few common traits so as to make it as simple as possible to identify such entities (as well as for readers to get a quick feel of what the Initiative is about and what it's not).

Specifically, I found the three-criteria style used in Gittip's blog post to be much clearer than the description repeated several times throughout the site, i.e. "maximize operational transparency and openness as a defining element in how we create value."
