Timeline for sunsetting Python 2 support #152
Comments
https://www.python.org/doc/sunset-python-2/ Python 2 sunset notice. Python 3.4 is also already in EOL phase. I will remove both Python 2.7 and 3.4 from the build matrices soon. |
Yeah, upcoming 4.2.0 / 3.4.9 opencv-python release will be the last release which includes Python 2.7 builds. |
This is a issue tracker. Please do not hijack it for your own purposes. Stack Overflow and https://answers.opencv.org/questions/ are the correct place for this kind of questions. |
Python 2.7 as well as 3.4 has been removed from the build matrix. |
Python 2 support will end officially in January 1, 2020.
Many projects, most notably Numpy, which is a dependency of
opencv-python
, will start dropping Python 2 support gradually a bit earlier: https://www.numpy.org/neps/nep-0014-dropping-python2.7-proposal.htmlSome other projects which are dropping Python 2 support: https://python3statement.org/
I'm currently planning to continue providing
opencv-python
builds for Python 2.7 until the end of 2019.This issue is a heads up for those who are still using Python 2. I highly recommend to start migrating into Python 3 as soon as possible.
