Dependency Hierarchy:

    • opensearch-x-content-3.0.0-SNAPSHOT.jar
      • snakeyaml-1.33.jar (Vulnerable Library)

Found in base branch: main

Vulnerability Details

SnakeYaml's Constructor() class does not restrict types which can be instantiated during deserialization. Deserializing yaml content provided by an attacker can lead to remote code execution. We recommend using SnakeYaml's SafeConsturctor when parsing untrusted content to restrict deserialization.

The current issue comes from upstream OS:

Dependency Hierarchy:

opensearch-3.0.0-SNAPSHOT.jar (Root Library)
    opensearch-x-content-3.0.0-SNAPSHOT.jar
        ❌ snakeyaml-1.32.jar (Vulnerable Library)

Related issue from core: opensearch-project/OpenSearch#5576

all usages of SnakeYaml in OpenSearch are now using SafeConstructor() after opensearch-project/OpenSearch#6205, per the recommendation in the CVE.

The original issue is still open: https://bitbucket.org/snakeyaml/snakeyaml/issues/561/cve-2022-1471-vulnerability-in

I think We can close this issue as K-NN doesn't use SnakeYaml directly.

Hey @dhrubo-os! We have fixed the vulnerability on core: opensearch-project/OpenSearch#6511 and backported it to 2.x. Looking at the latest Whitesource check here looks like the vulnerability is resolved for k-NN. Can we close this issue?
