It would be nice to have some sort of (basic) validation before a changeset gets uploaded.
Perhaps
self intersecting ways
single node in way (not easy to produce but possible)
unconnected roads (within x meters)
...
iD puts a lot of effort to avoid those bugs from the beginning. This is a wise design. But in the end users can produce "buggy" changesets (although harder as in josm...).

We've added a number of validations already in iD. Not sure if 'self intersecting ways' is necessarily wrong. iD will not generate single-node ways. Unconnected ways are possible to detect but significantly more difficult than the other types of validation - please create a ticket just for that.
