I recommend continuing to use GitHub Discussions as our primary forum for these reasons:
Integration with GitHub's Ecosystem: GitHub, being the largest open-source and developer community platform, offers seamless integration with its user accounts, software projects, documentation, and issue tracking. Its robust email notification system and secure account management are significant advantages.
Cost and Resource Efficiency: Using GitHub eliminates the need for financial and manpower investments in maintaining a separate forum service like Discourse. This aligns with our current low priority for resource allocation in forum infrastructure.
User-Friendly Interface: GitHub's interface is straightforward and clean, facilitating easy registration and use for even the most casual users.
Limitations to Consider:
While GitHub might lack some advanced features compared to dedicated forum services like Discourse, it suffices for our current needs.
Note on Community-Driven Forums:
Community members are welcome to independently maintain alternative forums. However, it's important to note that at this stage, investing resources in such endeavors is not a high priority.
