Folder files returned from SearchAsync() doesn't include image file types

When using SearchAsync() to return all the files from a given Folder, I ran into the problem that images files (JPG, PNG, et al.) were not being returned in the ListItem collection. Is this a result of SharePoint not indexing image files and making them available to searches? Or is my approach flawed in some fashion?

Example:

        var lookupResult = (await pnpContext.Web.SearchAsync(searchOptions))
            .Rows
            .FirstOrDefault();
