.NET Framework Early Access Installation Instructions

The following instructions explain how to install and uninstall .NET Framework Early Access builds.

Installation

You can install the early access build by downloading the latest build and then running the installer. The installer and license links are provided below.

The installer will look like the following:

Validating Installation

You can validate the build was correctly installed on your system, given your Windows version:

  • Windows 10 Creators Update, Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Windows Server 2016 -- you can find this as 'Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4038163)' or 'Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4050974)' under Installed Updates in Control Panel depending on the Windows 10 version.
  • Windows 8.1 / Windows Server 2012 R2 -- you can find this as Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4038139) under Installed Updates in Control Panel.
  • Windows 7 SP1 / Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 -- you will see the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 as an installed product under Programs and Features in Control Panel.

Uninstallation

  • Windows 10 Creators Update, Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Windows Server 2016, Windows 8.1 / Windows Server 2012 R2 -- Go to Installed Updates in Control Panel. Select 'Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4038163)' or 'Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4050974)' or 'Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4038139)' depending on the OS platform. Click uninstall and follow steps
  • Windows 7 SP1 / Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 -- Go to Programs and Features in Control Panel - Select Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 - Click Uninstall and follow steps
