Situation:

  • ranger is installed but not loaded.
  • I use dired and type C-p
  • i get (wrong-type-argument commandp deer-from-dired)

Personally I think the key should not be autoloaded since that binds C-p even before I load ranger, and I didn't even know this key existed as I have not tried ranger yet.

I'm accustomed to typing C-p to move the cursor upwards, so it's very surprising when this happens. I suspect it's a good thing it currently throws an error, as it lets the user know what's happening. If the command were autoloaded, then the user might have no idea what is happening to their Dired session and not know how to fix it.

Just my two cents.
