Reasons for the request

Cause

After the service at travis-ci.org was discontinued, the release CI/CD broke for the petl package.

If one browses to travis-ci.org website, one will see this message displayed on the front page:

Since June 15th, 2021, the building on travis-ci.org is ceased. Please use travis-ci.com from now on.

Reasons

I'm asking me to add a co-maintainer of the petl package on PyPI because:

• I'm intending to create a new CI/CD pipeline using Github Actions for fixing the issue of automatic release to PyPI.
• PyPI version is stuck at v1.7.4, while the GitHub release already is at version v1.7.5
• Although petl is a mature library, eventually people bring some improvements and bug fixes.
• Also there is a need to improve the code to keep it actual with new python versions and features and deal with the deprecation of services and dependencies.

• I have tried to contact the original author, Alistair Miles, but failed:
  • I've written on 15-oct-2021 to the address on the email alimanfoo@googlemail.com available on his Github profile but received no answer yet.
  • I've assigned an issue describing the problem for him.

Relationship

• For some time he didn't participate in the activities of the project anymore. Maybe because he is busy with other things or he has other priorities right now.
• I don't have any other way to contact the author besides what is in his public information.
• We didn't have any personal conflict nor had any conflicting opinions about the project/package development.
• If the author has time and interest for continuing the petl maintenance in the future, he will be kindly and respectfully received and his contributions will be really appreciated.

Good news:

• @alimanfoo answered in PyPI petl not up to date (1.7.4 vs 1.7.5) petl-developers/petl#583
• I hope that we can fix the release issue soon...
• If so, we can close/abandon this request/issue.

Status update:

• Problem solved after @alimanfoo added me as petl package maintainer on PyPI.
• Migrated release from discontinued travis-ci.org to a brand new CD using Github Action in cd: publish releases to PyPI with GA petl-developers/petl#593
• Released version v1.7.6 to PyPI
• Closing this issue because the problem was fixed and we do not need intervention anymore.
