Can't establish direct connections. Ready to blowout my brains

I've been all over the internet looking for help asking for help on reddit, I have never used qbittorrent or any tors, I am fairly new to this side of the internet and I cannot establish a connection on qbit. I've tried basic settings with no altering any settings, I purchased protonvpn and I've tried running it with wireguard and nothing, I've tried running openvpn UDP the other option, I've done these over and over and still no connection just that stupid orange flame. I really don't care for this I just want to get my programs so I can do my work and smoke my damn weed. Please help me. Will all my problems go away if I just use a linux system and stop operating off windows?

Getting port fowarding set up correctly will help ensure that you can connect to all peers possible, or rather they to you. If you don't, you will still usually have some upload, specially while you are connected downloading if there are a lot of others doing the same. It will just be far, far less.

I've successfully downloaded films from torrenting, and so far, my assumption is that the peer who connected and shared a file with me has a public IP and is not behind NAT; it's like a server/client model (the peer connection was relayed?) where their IP is reachable, and thus I think it's not directly a P2P model.

It sounds weird to me that I'm able to perform seeding with zero configuration even though my IP was shared, and I'm curious about how this is even possible.

Probably via UDP hole-punching. You'll notice that all your connections to peers in Peers tab, are via μTP only (Connection column). If that's not it... i have no idea.

It's more often BT (Bit Torrent?) than μTP.

BT is an abbreviation for Bittorrent, it is not a communication protocol. All connections are either uTP or TCP. @thalieht is saying that the connections that are giving you upload will probably only be uTP, not TCP.

I think most VPNs dont allow you to open ports, does proton allow you to open a port? You need to set a manual port in qbt and open that port if your vpn allows that

ProtonVPN has port fowarding for most of their servers. And yeah, the answer is most likely that they did not put the port number that ProtonVPN gave them into qBittorrent Tools-Options-Connection-Listening Port.
