Is it possible to use it with a regular modern Android phone? Will it work if I simply connect ESP32 to a phone as an OTG?

i suppose yes if you configure your esp to print to 'standard' serial. however i haven't ever used android devices so cannot provide support.

I am working on my project in Rust, which will do this, using a TCP server, and possibly also an OTG cable. When I have a working version, I'll publish the code in a repository. By now, it transfers the data to XCSoar correctly, although I still don't have the sensors or an ESP32 to try sending real data.
