Disallowed compose keys

I want my compose key to be \ (VK_OEM_5) but when I try to change it I press backslash but nothing happens (same with many other keys) and I can only set it to e.g., Alt gr or Win Key. Is this by default? Does VK_OEM_5 interfere with other sequences? For what is worth, I only use my own sequences, not the default ones, and there is no clashing there. I am using Windows 11.

(I use a lot of LaTeX, and use wincompose mainly for maths, hence backslash feels way more natural than anything else).
