Currently the database uses the spelled out variant of the English ISO standard for countries. This has some implications, such as not being easily translatable, as well as often being somewhat controversial.

A better alternative would be to use the region codes from the Unicode Common Locale Data Repository (CLDR, http://cldr.unicode.org/), then let the application using the radio browser API worry about turning a code into a user facing string using the appropriate CLDR database.
