Symbolic Toolbox for Scilab
===========================
Interface between Maxima (symbolic computation) and Scilab.
You must have Scilab (v. >= 4.0), Perl and Maxima (v. >= 5.9.3) installed:
Scilab: http://www.scilab.org/download/index_download.php
Maxima: http://maxima.sourceforge.net/download.shtml
Perl : http://www.activestate.com/Products/ActivePerl/?mp=1
Linux users: Maxima 5.9.3 Fedora rpm's can be installed on other rpm-based
distributions and can also be converted to deb's using alien.
It is also recommended to install a provisional module for overloading
functions (see module OVLD)
Version 0.0 pre1 May, 2006
============================
Jean-Francois Magni: jean-francois.magni_at_onera.fr
Installation
============
1 - Add the following line in the 'scilab.quit' file located in the
Scilab installation directory (path given by typing SCI in Scilab):
if exists('MAX'); killserver(%t); end;
If you don't have write access to this file, you must type 'killserver'
each time before leaving Scilab.
2 - From the 'file' menu of a Scilab window, navigate to the directory
'SYM' where the symbolic toolbox was unzipped and execute 'builder.sce',
then, 'loader.sce'.
3 - Install the module for overloading functions: From the 'file' menu
of a Scilab window, navigate to the directory 'OVLD' where this module
was unzipped and execute 'builder.sce' and then, 'loader.sce'
(see also the 'readme.txt' file of this module).
4 - From Scilab, invoke the function 'restartserver'. Note that this function
will kill all already running Maxima tasks.
5 - Feature not well tested:
On Linux i386 set INTERFACE = 'lin86'
On Solaris Sparc set INTERFACE = 'sparc'
It will replace a Perl script by a compiled program -> divide CPU
time by two. Set INTERFACE = 'perl' to go back to the original
setting.
Getting started
===============
type 'hlp symbolic' for the list of available functions
type 'hlp <name_of_function>' for on-line help
open the tutorial: <PATH>/doc/index.html
