Indications | Bacterial meningitis, Gonorrhea, Infectious disease of digestive tract, Infectious disease of genitourinary system, Infective endocarditis, Respiratory tract infection, Sepsis. |
Dosing | Usually, adults: 250-500 mg IM 2-4 times daily, children weighing < 20 kg: 25-60 mg/kg/day IM/IV in 3-4 divided doses. Infection of respiratory tract, skin or soft tissue and genitourinary tract: adults 250-500 mg every 6 hours; children weighing < 40 kg: 25-50 mg/kg/day in 4 divided doses. Urinary tract infection due to N. Gonorrhea: adults 500 mg every 12 hours. Bacterial meningitis: adults 8-14 g/day; children 100-200 mg/kg/day. Administer in equally divided doses every 3-4 hours. Treatment may be initiated with intravenous drip therapy and continued with intramuscular injections.
