Rifampicin

Rifampicin 300mg

TAH Drug Code ORIF5
Indications Pulmonary tuberculosis and carriers of Neisseria meningitidis.
Dosing Neisseria meningitidis carrier: Adult: 600 mg QD for 4 days. >=5 years old: 10-20 mg/kg QD for 4 days. Tuberculosis: Adult: 600 mg QD. >=5 years old: 10-20 mg/kg QD for 4 days. Elders & weak patient: 10 mg/kg QD. Maximum: 600 mg/day. May use 1.8g/day in some types of infections.
Hepatic Impairment Dose adjustment required
Renal Impairment Dose adjustment required
Contraindications Patients with jaundice and those with a history of allergy to any rifampin-class drugs.
Adverse Effects Common: Heartburn, epigastric distress, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, drowsiness, fatigue, ataxia, inability to concentrate, confusion, visual disturbances, and edema. Serious: Agranulocytosis, Disseminated intravascular coagulation, Thrombotic microangiopathy, Hepatotoxicity, Anaphylaxis, Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms, Hypersensitivity reaction, Nephrotoxicity, Renal failure, Interstitial lung disease, Mycobacteriosis, Paradoxical reaction.
