Error in updating #421

Running docker-slim update I get the following output:

Sounds like a path permission problem... Can you try enabling the debug mode to see more info ( docker-slim --debug update or even docker-slim --log-level=trace update )

Finally I managed to update with the following workaround procedure:

manually delete the content of directory \tmp\docker-slim-state\.docker-slim-state\releases
update using super user rights with sudo docker-slim update

Thank you for your investigation here! Using sudo is a good workaround for the permission problem. Need to revisit the updater logic to check if the binary update can be done in a different way, but if writing to the /usr/local/bin directory requires extra permissions it might be tricky to do it without sudo.

Unfortunately the above workaround does not work anymore. Now I'm using WSL2 on Windows 11.

This looks like a download related error (could be networking related or could be something in the download logic)... I'll try to repro the condition and I'll share my findings

I ran again the update and this time there was no "error downloading release package" message, so I report again the logs using sudo, without and with --log-level=trace option:
