Teaching 👨‍🏫

I definitely felt going into teaching here in New Zealand that there is a strange culture of not sharing much of your planning with other teachers. It always seemed a bit odd to me because people have been teaching the same content for a long time, and if only we could start to share our detailed unit plans, lesson plans and even slides, then perhaps we could make some really great content!

The majority of my coding work centres around my finnito/Science repository. I do all of my unit and lesson planning there, as well as writing all of my notes in Markdown!

This way it is easy for other teachers to read/copy/use my planning and work to hopefully improve their own teaching practice!

Outdoors 🏔

Despite enjoying both my job and programming, there is nothing I enjoy doing more than being outdoors. I love tramping (noun [NZ]: the recreational activity of going for long-distance walks in rough country._), running, cycling (both road and cross country), kayaking, rock climbing, yoga, skiing and the list goes on. Given the choice, I will be outside.

In an attempt to merge my love of the outdoors and programming, I have started work on a little project, finnito/adventure-log, in which people can log hut conditions, river conditions, etc. for any 900+ huts in New Zealand's vast hut network. This will, hopefully, help people make more informed decisions when they go outdoors.

I hope to gain some sponsorship to help me spend my time making these tools, and more.
