Working on software really is most fun when many people can enjoy your work. With that in mind, I try to spend as much on free software as I can. This means of course my own projects are all open, but I also feel a strong incentive to report or fix any issues I encounter in the software I use.
My own projects are mostly small electronic projects and some Arduino libraries. I am making signficant and continuing contributions to a lot of projects, such as Debian, various parts of Arduino, KiCad, Django, OpenTTD, Hamster time tracker. But I've also made some smaller contributions in the past to a broader array of projects, such as the Linux kernel, cdist, vuurmuur, go, Partkeepr, git, urwid, Pulseaudio, Moinmoin, lxc, llvm, Raspbian, OpenJSCad, Uwsgi.
With Github Sponsors, I'm hoping to achieve two things:
- Generate a bit of income for my open source work, allowing shifting some more of my time away from closed-source hired work to open-source contributions that will benefit more people.
- Find some focus in what to work on, based on feedback from my sponsors. There's so much nice things to work on...
