Projects connected to no longer existing github repo got stuck

While opening a project once connected to a GitHub repo that no longer exixts the IDE spins forever showing the INITIALIZING GIT REPOSITORY message never timing out.

The project is there and working but there's no way to edit it nor to disconnect it from the git repository and gaining back control.

I'd expect the init phase to time out having then the possibility to disconnect the projectc from the repo.

for everyone who might be interested in, I just managed to get back in control of the project by forking it.
