I'm using this issue tracker to propose this idea, because this is also a feature request if you deem this idea interesting:
I'm one of the devs behind @cryptomator and we have been planning to create a vendor-neutral open source encryption standard, which should allow users to use our tools interchangeably. We have already discussed various ideas with @rfjakob (maintainer of gocryptfs) and proposed this to @ncw (rclone) here rclone/rclone#1647 (comment).
Discussing and documenting such a file format shall take place here on GitHub (in a new orga/repo).
I would love to have you on board as well. What do you think?
