"Real artists ship."

Musing 💡:

This may sound absurd, but nowadays I honestly spend probably just as much time deciding what to build as I do time actually building the thing. Moving forward, I'm going to try to develop a new workflow: In the evening, before I shut down for the night, I'm going to brainstorm exactly what I'm going to do the next morning. This way, the next morning, I can just wake up and actually just do the thing.

For this new pattern to work, I'll need to be very precise and think ahead on everything I'll need to either learn or implement. I remember reading somewhere once long ago that our brain operates in different modes. In the morning, I'm usually hyper-focused, efficient, and productive. So I think mornings are a good "just do the coding" time for me. In the evenings, I'm generally more easily distracted and it's more difficult to concentrate. So it might be a good time to try to do the "bigger picture strategy/steering" in the evenings? Maybe? Idk. 🤷‍♂️ Will need to try and find out! 😄

Today's Tasks:

  • Further integrate with the GitHub Webhook. Every time my Go services receives a message from the GH Webhook, insert an entry into Firestore.
    • Integrate my GCP Go project with Firestore-- write a message from Go into Firestore
  • On the GUI-- Each card should display its number of comments
  • 2p ET CodeNewbie check-in with Matt

Result 🍓🍌🍉:

The fruits of your labor! Screenshots, videos, text, welcome!

Observations & Next Steps 🔭👣:

After meeting with Matt this afternoon, I discovered that the study group dashboard doesn't work in Firefox 😥😦☹.

Extra/Fun (Optional) 🎈🎉🥳:

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy! Feel free to include a fun snippet here at the end of something non-coding related that you discovered today. There's more to life than just sitting in front of the computer! Cook a new recipe! Discover a new trail to walk! The world is vast and full of wonder! 🌎😀

I too suffer from this same phenomenon of figuring out what to do vs actually doing. It really does take a lot of time to plan your work, decide which thing you should focus on for the day, and then do the thing. I also think about potential blog posts and stuff that I can post on my social media. It's a lot.

One thing that's helping me right now is that I'm following the tutorial/specialization on Coursera. I have no idea what I will do after the fact.

Re the study group dashboard: LOL, it seems each browser just does its own thing these days. And then when you add in mobile phones, forget it. 😂
