Compiz on QubesOS

Compiz is one of the first OpenGL-accelerated compositing window managers for the X Window System. It has various extensions which could be useful with XFCE Desktop Environment to extend windows management functionality.

Repository contains spec files to build upstream version from compiz-reloaded project sources. We have made some patches to apply QubesOS colors and title to window decorations (gtk-window-decorator). Also qubes gui-daemon requires patches to fix some errors discovered with Compiz. It could be used with QubesOS 4.0 and 4.1 versions.

Build packages

Build and install in dom0 following packages:

• compiz-qubes
• compiz-plugins-main
• compiz-plugins-extra
• qubes-gui-daemon

Metapackage compiz-qubes will install all necessary packages and will prevent from breaking updates.

Configure Compiz

Compiz could be started manually with --replace option to replace xfwm4

compiz --replace ccp

To setup compiz configuration use CompizConfig Setting Manager.

Automate starting compiz with XFCE Session ans Startup.
