Add test coverage for configuration output and then re-input

The merge of #2518 revealed that the type parameter of the convergence configuration is duplicated across each converged variable, which is not valid in the schema.

Describe the solution you'd like
Add tests to cover the case of reading configuration -> writing configuration -> reading configuration again.
