With the future providing virtually free electricity, all transport will be electric.

See: The math, and evidence all around you, that shows shared autonomous vehicles powered by solar power and batteries are inevitable - which is nicely documented and substaniated. (Thanks for the link, Alix)

Driverless drones might be even better. Think of the benefits:

  • No need to build roads
  • Parking and charging spaces can be on any floor or rooftop

The only issue is the wind caused by the propellers.
At ground level, the wind from all the propellers stirring up sticks and pebbles could be lethal.

I propose that buildings have landing pods. These would be machines attached to buildings or towers or landscape features at a height of 30m/100' or so above the ground.

Driverless drones approach the landing pod.The pod reaches out and attaches to the drone. The drone can then stop its propellers. The pod then lowers the drone to the ground. Passengers get in and out without being ruffled. After the exchange the drone is lifted back up a safe distance and flies off to its next mission or over to a recharging station.

The other question is: can driverless drones fly quietly enough through cities so that peeps are not disturbed by the noise of the propellers?
