ChangeLog
---------
Version 2.0.5 - 19-Feb-2022:
- Added support for SAAINT running on MMB4L (2022.01.00-a3).
- Added richer functionality to the prompt:
- navigate command history with [UP] and [DOWN].
- support for [LEFT], [RIGHT], [HOME], [END] and [INSERT].
- Added *ACTIONS <index> meta-command:
- prints action <index>.
- if <index> is omitted then prints all the actions in the adventure.
- WARNING! may contain spoilers.
- Added *MESSAGES <index> meta-command:
- prints content of message <index>.
- if <index> is omitted then prints all the messages in the adventure.
- WARNING! may contain spoilers.
- Added *ROOMS [index] meta-command:
- prints description and exits from room <index>.
- if <index> is omitted then prints all the rooms in the adventure.
- WARNING! may contain spoilers.
- Added optional <index> argument to *OBJECTS meta-command.
- Added 'counter', 'alternate counters' and 'alternate room registers' to
output of *STATE meta-command.
- Added destination room number to each exit in output from "dump.bas".
- Added encrypted walkthrough for SACA #8 "Pyramid of Doom".
- Added 'Loading <adventure> ...' message when loading .dat file.
- Changed adventure start behaviour so that initial actions are processed and
messages printed before the first room is described.
- Changed format of object lists from comma separated to one object per line,
I may make this configurable behaviour in a later version.
- Fixed bug where 'counter', 'alternate counters' and
'alternate room registers' were not reset when the player started a new
adventure; this may have been harmless since a well behaved adventure would
always setup these as required.
- Fixed bug where the "limbo" room was not described when the player dies.
- Fixed "DF is not declared" bug when *STATE meta-command was used.
- Fixed more bugs in the logic determining when a room description should
be printed.
- Fixed "IA is not declared" bug in "dump.bas"
Version 2.0.4 - 10-Aug-2021:
- Fixed bug that caused the RUBY in "Pyramid of Doom" to not be recognised as
a *TREASURE*:
- the object name had a superflous leading space, such leading and trailing
spaces are now trimmed.
- Fixed bug that caused player to start "Pyramid of Doom" without the empty
canteen and pistol:
- the value -1 was being used for the room Id for carried objects when
infact it should have been 255.
- Fixed bug that caused "Ghost Town" to describe initial location twice.
- Fixed bug with handling of "dark flag":
- was incorrectly being maintained separately from bit 15 of the status
flags with which it is supposed to be synonymous. This is probably only
significant for later adventures that make more use of the status flags.
- Fixed various bugs with handling of the "lamp" (lit light source):
- the most significant being that its duration was only being decremented
whilst it was being carried, which was actually the original behaviour in
some of the older Scott Adams adventures.
- Fixed division by zero error when SCORE command issued for an adventure with
0 treasures:
- a well formed adventure with 0 treasures should either not implement the
SCORE command or not use the default treasure based implementation.
- Fixed hang when adventure .dat file contains too little data, e.g. has
been truncated.
- Added *OBJECTS meta-command:
- prints the id, current location and name of every object in the adventure.
- WARNING! may contain spoilers.
- Added *VOCAB meta-command:
- prints the adventure's verb and noun tables.
- the tables usually only contain the first 3-5 significant characters
of each word.
- an entry preceded by a + is a synonym for the previous entry.
- the noun table does not necessarily contain the nouns for all the
adventure's objects, see the output of *OBJECTS.
- WARNING! may contain spoilers.
- Added some more checks that adventure .dat file is well formed:
- contains at least 10 objects.
- contains at least 19 verbs.
Version 2.0.3 - 20-Jul-2021:
- Added support for unencrypted walkthough (.wlk) files.
These are in the same format as ordinary script files but should be put in
the directory containing the corresponding "<adventure>.dat" and be named
"<adventure>.wlk".
- Changed location of "saaint.ini" file from "<saaint-root>/src"
to "<saaint-root>". If the .ini file is not present in "<saaint-root>" but
is present in "<saaint-root>/src" then it will be moved.
- Changed location of temporary files from "<saaint-root>/src"
to "<saaint-root>/tmp".
Version 2.0.2 - 17-Jul-2021:
- Added "seed" key to "saaint.ini". If the value is > 0 then the random number
generator will be seeded with this value when an adventure is started or
restored. Otherwise the random number generator is seeded from the TIMER.
Version 2.0.1 - 19-Jun-2021:
- Changed password input typed by user (to access walkthroughs) from
green text to white text to match other user input.
- Fixed 'dump.bas' utility which was missing a #Include statement.
Version 2.0.0 - 8-Jun-2021:
- Substantially enhanced standalone version including *with permission*
Scott Adams' Classic Adventures #1-#12.
- Should also be capable of playing Brian Howarth's "Mysterious Adventures"
and other adventures in TRS-80 / ScottFree / .dat file format.
- The author has only used SAAINT to play Scott Adams's Classic Adventures
#1-#3 to completion, the others *should work*, let me know if they do not.
- For firmware 5.07.00 or later.
Version 1.0.0 - 24-Jan-2021:
- Original version distributed with version 1.0.0 of "The Welcome Tape".
- Only capable of playing the BYTE Magazine version of "Pirate Adventure".
