I would love evidence to support that it's the number one download manager, but it hasn't been updated in at least six years.

I have found and reported a few issues with it so far and yet (like many others) not got a reply from issues.

Are they any forks of uGet which is more up-to-date?

I've emailed the creator directly with a few questions.

Hi, did he respond you?

@alienxz77b I thought I replied to this, but I didn't - sorry about that.

But I'm afraid it gets worse...

My initial e-mail was: -

"Hello,

I've noticed that they hasn't been any updates on GH with uGet in at
least six years and yet people are still raising issues to this date,
including myself.

Have you abandoned uGet? Or is there another reason?

I know you're active as https://github.com/slgobinath/SafeEyes was
updated a few days ago.

uGet is the most feature-rich app I've found so far but still is lacking
in many ways. I've even made a better uget-integation script with less
dependencies than yours - posted on GH of course to help others.

Hope to hear back from you soon"

The reply was: -

"Hi Danny,

The uGet download manager itself is developed by C.H. Huang who still actively maintains the project at https://sourceforge.net/projects/urlget/
I developed only the uGet Integrator and the browser extensions. I no longer have time or interest and moved to some other projects and life goals. Even the Safe Eyes project is now mostly maintained by the community. Michael Tunnell owns the GitHub repository. Maybe he can invite new maintainers if anyone from the community like to take over the project.

Thanks & Regards,
Gobinath"

I asked more questions after that and he didn't even reply anymore. Funny how in his signature claims to be a "Senior Software Engineer" - AS I have been for decades.

Take all of this as you will.

Hello there, sorry but I bring unfortunate news. uGet is no longer under active development and I am not sure if there are any plans for it to be revived. Forks are of course welcomed since the project is open source and anyone can take the existing code and make something from it.

Globinath was a contributor to the project but he is not the creator, that would be C.H. Huang as he said in his reply. I joined the team 15 years ago as a UX guy and community manager. Over the years the project has slowed to a crawl and recently pretty much has been dormant.

I discussed the future of uGet with C.H. a little over a month ago and he is no longer able to devote time to the project at the moment so we have marked it as no longer under active development.

Sorry for the bad news but unfortunately this is how it stands at the moment.
