Which Umbraco version are you using? (Please write the exact version, example: 10.1.0)

14 or newer

Bug summary

There is a clipboard in Umbraco 14

However to my knowledge there is no way of copying anything to it?
image

Specifics

I've looked in vain for an open issue on this .

On blocklists and blockgrids I'd expect to be able to copy blocks like in Umbraco 13, and so do our customers who we've paraded the feature in front of as soon as it became available.

I can't find a way to use that functionality in Umbraco 14, yet, I can open the clipboard

Steps to reproduce

Edit page with blockgrid

Look for copy block button

Expected result / actual result

I'd expect to be able to copy blocks to a clipboard, especially when there is an open clipboard button.

Hi there @kasparboelkjeldsen!

Firstly, a big thank you for raising this issue. Every piece of feedback we receive helps us to make Umbraco better.

We really appreciate your patience while we wait for our team to have a look at this but we wanted to let you know that we see this and share with you the plan for what comes next.

  • We'll assess whether this issue relates to something that has already been fixed in a later version of the release that it has been raised for.
  • If it's a bug, is it related to a release that we are actively supporting or is it related to a release that's in the end-of-life or security-only phase?
  • We'll replicate the issue to ensure that the problem is as described.
  • We'll decide whether the behavior is an issue or if the behavior is intended.

We wish we could work with everyone directly and assess your issue immediately but we're in the fortunate position of having lots of contributions to work with and only a few humans who are able to do it. We are making progress though and in the meantime, we will keep you in the loop and let you know when we have any questions.

Thanks, from your friendly Umbraco GitHub bot 🤖 🙂

Seeing it didn't make 14.2, can anyone chime in with whether we can expect it for 14.3 ?

hello - does anybody know why this isn't a higher priority? Content editors really miss the convenience of this basic capability

This is still missing in 14.3.0 anyone know what is going on?

This is such a crazy oversight...

Hi @kasparboelkjeldsen

You are right and just to confirm still missing in v.15.0.
But we are starting on this feature now and it will be part of v.15.1

So you can get started building projects that will need this and I will guarantee it will be part of 15.1.

Thanks for sharing how important this feature is for you 💙

hi - 15.0 sounds like a better release candidate than 15.1 given thats its not out yet. My recommendation would be to shift out the release date of 15 to incorporate fundamental tickets like this (there are other tickets too)

@shearer3000 15.1 at least gives us a target to aim for. It's evident from v14 as well, that the current release strategy is more calendar based than feature based. We can think what we want about that, but I think that is how it is right now, and at least it aligns umbraco with things like the release of .net 9 and I expect, other Microsoft milestones.

I am personally looking forward to 15.1 now, and with block clipboard, plus perhaps a few important bug fixes, Umbraco 15 is for me shaping up to be "the one" I might be comfortable basing new things on.

I can't tell you how disappointing it is that this functionality has not been added back yet.

It is literally the only thing stalling our upgrade path to 14 and beyond.

Just to align expectations, this feature is begin developed currently. But since we decided to move the release of v.15.1 2 weeks earlier, its might not reach 15.1, so maybe it first arrives in 15.2.

The reasoning to move the release of 15.1 earlier, is because there is a lot of issues and features regarding Block Editors in this version and then as well because of Christmas holiday.
