Describe the bug

I enable my VPN and open it, but the icon does not appear in the system trye although the ^ is there and the icon in that.
Same for Task Manager when set to hide on minimise and minimised.

Expected outcome

the icons will appear if enabled in system tray setting in settings

Actual outcome

the icons only ever appear in the popup

Additional info

The hide/not setting are preserved, they just don't seem to be respected

You can drag and drop the icon in the system tray to the popup menu that you don't want shown.

I want them visible as small icons on the right of the start bar like they were before I installed ep, but the settings are ignored, although unlike some reports, they can be changed and are remembered fine.

Yes, the settings that EP opens for changing what system tray icons are to be shown, are ignored when using the windows 10 or windows 10 EP implemented taskbar. All you can do is drag and drop the icons in the system tray, or show all system tray icons.

I am using the windows 7 task bar and don't seem to have that option, but I found this:
https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/discussions/windows11/show-all-icons-in-system-tray-option-in-windows11/3359877

  1. Press Win+R to open the Run prompt.
  2. Enter this value: explorer shell:::{05d7b0f4-2121-4eff-bf6b-ed3f69b894d9}
  3. Tick the Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar checkbox.
  4. Click the OK button.
    Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
