After learning some internals of Redcarpet I’m wondering about some things:

  • Have anybody seen the new parser @vms have promised?
  • Is it worth to contribute new features to Redcarpet without upstream to Sundown?
  • Will Github abandon the codebase of Redcarpet when the new parser is out?
  • Don’t you want to collaborate with the author @faelys of Sundowns code base Libsoldout?

Have anybody seen the new parser @vms have promised?

No. Since @vmg has passed the library on to @robin850 and I, I've made
the assumption we'll never see that. I've also not heard anything of
substance out of the common markdown group for awhile either.

Is it worth to contribute new features to Redcarpet without upstream to Sundown?

Yes. We've removed Sundown from Redcarpet's codebase. We essentially
don't care about Sundown anymore.

Will Github abandon the codebase of Redcarpet when the new parser is out?

GitHub doesn't use Redcarpet at all anymore, so the answer to that
question is already 'yes'. See #212. Redcarpet is now a community run
project.

Don’t you want to collaborate with the author @faelys of Sundowns code base Libsoldout?

I had never heard of the library before now so there was no reason to
collaborate. I still don't see much of a reason to collaborate.
libsoldout seems to basically be in maintenance mode, where as we're
continuing to add new features, fix bugs, and do other things to
redcarpet as we find things to do.

@mattr- Thank you for clearing things.

A collaboration can be an invitation to help maintaining Redcapet. Natasha @faelys is for sure an expert on parsers, is female, multilingual, active blogger. Sounds like she could be a gain for Redcarpet’s development.

There is no such thing as a "maintenance mode" in my projects, and I'm not sure it even makes sense for such tiny projects: if I'm not willing to spend an hour working on a bugfix or on a new feature, then it's abandoned; and if it requires more than an hour, then it's not really a new feature, but rather a significant rewrite/redesign/respecification of the project.
