README: document changes between v4 and v5 #268

v5 is apparently still in beta, but this is not said in the README.
v5 is the default branch on GitHub (see #266), so v4 is not even advertised.

The README should tell about the branches status and tell the differences in features, implementation, API to allow users to make their choice.
