The term MediaSession seems odd given what the feature does (I acknowledge that this comes from Andriod). Seems more like a "Media Control Extensions".

It's not fully for media controls, but also allow websites to customize media metadata, so the name "Media Control Extensions" is a bit narrow.

Previously, the API have audio focus mechanisms so "Media Session" is an appropriate name. Later we decided to move audio focus to a separate API (Audio Focus PI), but the name was kept.

Currently the API has already been shipped in Chrome. Apple has participated in API discussions and they don't have opposing opinions on the spec name yet.
