In certain machines with unusual DNS setups, localhost doesn't resolve to the loopback address (normally 127.0.0.1) but to an unexpected external address or interface.

In Scope standalone mode, this prevents the local probe from communicating with the local app.

A user has experienced this recently https://weaveworks.slack.com/archives/weave-users/p1482172679000789

I have experienced this myself in a hotel room with a strange DNS setup.

To solve this we could use 127.0.0.1 directly instead of localhost
