Not deleting messages older than time set in preferences

Required:
*Mint 18.1

• Firefox version: 71.0
• Textarea Cache version: 4.2.1

Optional:

• set auto clear old cache to something like 14 days (as I have).
• Make sure the box is checked on the "auto clear" line in prefs.

It's not deleting any old messages, that I can see.
I've got messages from 12/26/19 back to March 2, 2019 - and that's after I manually deleted a bunch.

I found that it had stopped saving messages.
As soon as I saw the really old messages, I thought of a cache problem.

When I deleted a lot of older entries, it started saving new ones.
I'm not sure how much storage is allotted to TCA (I don't have a shortage of storage).
