Image optimization is enabled by default. Some users, such as photographers, may place a lot of value in uploading their images at full quality. For those users, they're able to turn optimization on via Me → App Settings.
We previously had a pop-up to inform users of the option to disable optimization immediately after uploading an image for the first time. However, this was deemed as too intrusive and removed. See: p9ugOq-4nG-p2
Describe the solution you'd like
I'm opening this issue for the purpose of discussing ways to helpfully inform users about optimization settings in a manner that isn't intrusive.

@osullivanchris, I'm keen to get your thoughts on this issue. Do you think we should inform users of image optimization settings somewhere in the UI? 🙇♀️
@SiobhyB hey sorry I'm catching up on some loose ends and had this one open a while. I like the idea from those comments of having an icon somewhere to indicate the image is HD or not. But we don't really 'show' the image in full screen during the upload flow.
Maybe we could have a smaller, non-blocking banner for the first couple of uses.
It could open the existing dialog.
It would have an 'x' so the user could get rid of it.
Was also thinking about using the 'empty' media view. But can't rely on that as a new app user could have a site with a lot of existing media.
@osullivanchris, thank you for sharing those ideas! They seem great to me. As our team's not focused on the editor right now, I'll make a note to return to this when our priorities shift back 🙇♀️
