That's probably right. I mean not many people could contribute to it unless they could test it. And if they can't run it, the only way to test the code or features would be through an API... and then developers would need access to the latest code, weights and whatnot. So, for posterity's sake, image, or marketing would be about the only reasons to release it... not to open it up for the purpose of improving it.

I for one would like to contribute and I have API access but it's one I seriously use. I use HF (Qwen2.5-Coder and some ImageGen models mostly), OpenAI 4o, and Groq (not xAI Grok) for LLama 3x and Whisper.
