Vertical Splits don't play nice with NERD Tree

I recently updated Vimified configuration with the latest code, and am noticing that when I open a 3rd vertical split the split on the left is automatically minimized. This is really annoying when working with NERD Tree and 2 code splits.

Any idea how I can stop this happening?

When you say the "left" you don't mean the NERDTree column, right?

I mean the rhs pane takes up all the space. I've changed vim config since but I was finding the the 2 lhs splits (NERDTree + other) were getting crushed down to a width of 0.

Do you have a hint about the source of the problem?

I don't know if it's related but if you have NerdTree tab open and open a new vertical split, NT tab will become extra small
