Statistical OVRs, in an alternative to "No Ratings" #381
Comments
I was trying to write up reasons why this shouldn't be done, but the more I think about it, it does sound really cool. Only real problem is that it's not the easiest thing to implement... |
It's not very hard to implement just for OVR and POT though? Those just need to be added as advanced stats and displayed as alternatives in the right places. sOVR using per36 and sPOT using age+sOVR. Overhauling it for all the sub-ratings might be a lot of work. |
It's still not trivial, and it's a lot less cool without the individual ratings. I dunno. I'm probably not going to do this any time soon. |
If it's no ratings mode people should be comfortable enough looking to stats for the more specific ratings, the calculated ovr would just be nice to sort things by. |
A while ago, I made a statistical OVR stat (fairly straightforward regression from per36 or advanced stats to OVR). I think it may actually have a use: in an alternative "no ratings" mode.
In fact, I'd love a "statistical ratings" mode where all the ratings shown to the player are computed based on game performances. Certainly statistical OVR (and statistical POT based on that estimated OVR), but maybe even for the sub-ratings. It'd be fun to manage my roster, playing time and minutes to try and discover who is good and who isn't. Watch the 3p ratings get computed based on the actual shots the player takes.
