A path has two required parts, an owner and a directory. Optionally, it may contain a file.

/brettin
/brettin/                 
/brettin/wsname           
/brettin/wsname/path
/brettin/wsname/path/file
           ^
           |
      sharable unit

The sharable unit can not be a file. The thing following the username cannot be a file. Sharing is set on the top level directory.
