In order to execute this project in the best way you will need to follow those steps:
First on you terminal you will need to navigate to the folder where the .nvmrc file is located and run the following command:
nvm useThis will tel to nvm to use the version defined by the project as your current Node version
Then you can run the command:
npm ci --silentThis will download all the dependencies that the project needs.
After all you are good to go to!
In order to make vs code execute our debug task that we have created, we need to follow some steps:
- first you have to chose a test file and open in an active tab to place a breakpoint
- then (with the test file on the active tab) you can press
ctrl + shift + b - and finally hit the
F5
That should handle all the necessary steps for you to get in the debug of the selected test file.
DISCLAIMER: On my machine it took a little time for the IDE to get into the breakpoint I've created, so just wait a little bit :)
In order to follow some best practices on node projects, we are going to use NVM. One of the required things in the project is to have on the root of your project folder a file called .nvmrc which should contain the node version that better suits the project.
This will allow other dev that uses nvm to run your project in the correct version. We can set the content of this file by using the following command:
node -v > .nvmrcAnother best practice is to set the engines that your project require, like the .nvmrc file approach this one will indicate to node which engine your project uses and this will taken in consideration when installing libs to the project. We can set that information after the project creation by running the following command:
npm pkg set type=module engines.node=$(node -v)
