Please read this guide to get started with MARS.

Concepts

Ensure you have read and are familiar with the general concepts used by MARS. All language used in the documentation can be referenced from these concepts.

What MARS is

MARS stores metadata and references to experimental data. MARS indexes this data and provides an interface to organize, track, and search this metadata. MARS provides a mechanism to generate tracking resources such as physical labels or digital metadata files.

What MARS is not

MARS never stores raw or original data. MARS must never be a data storage platform. MARS is designed to be most effective for tracking data and managing metadata. If MARS were a data storage platform, it would simply be another tool in the already full toolbox of research tools used for storing all types of data.
