Upaknee is a SaaS product, but uses several City of Boston subdomains to provide a cohesive user experience.
newsletters.boston.gov
This is the subdomain used for the preference center (sometimes called the subscription center). The preference center is where users can manage their profile and subscribe or unsubscribe from various lists. Enhancing the preference center is an active project.
hello.boston.gov
This is the subdomain used for specifically sending marketing emails. @hello.boston.gov is the sending domain so as to isolate @boston.gov from any potential deliverability issues. We don't want spam complaints to prevent us from sending regular emails. Email.boston.gov and newsletters.boston.gov were taken (newsletter is a bit too confusing). This domain shouldn't usually be seen, as the email client can spoof an @boston.gov email address. However, a user may be exposed to it.
