Confusion in iteration

I really am so confused about the use of terminals and all in the course. i am a windows user

1. when do i write commands in wsl?
2. is wsl the same with ubuntu?
3. can i run THE solidity commands directly from vscode terminal?
4. last for now, i had issues trying to compile simplestorage.sol in vscode. I ran forge compile on ubuntu but it didnt work.
   i'm really lost

1)A feature in the Windows operating system called(WSL) allows users to run a Linux environment directly on Windows and it is not a command line or shell.
2) Ubuntu is like the terminal in Windows but in a Linux environment, you should enter Linux commands in Ubuntu and Windows commands in the Windows terminal.
3)Yes you can easily do that.
4)You need to go to the directory where the contract is located then enter this command in the terminal. if you are in the root directory this is incorrect.

Maybe restart in a new directory and ensure to initialize foundry project with forge init

just few minutes ago i was able to compile on anvil. Been having issues with that.

well, just to be sure, what you meant by "restarting in new directory..." is like creating another directory apart from foundry-f23 as used in the course, then storing foundry-simple-storage-f23 in it, right?

It means restarting the whole building process. Sometimes, when I run into an issue, and no solution seems to work, I start afresh to see if I can catch what I am doing wrong when starting from scratch. This is impossible to do for a very large codebase, but it works for small codebases sometimes.

I have finally mustered up courage to start afresh, Sir.

But I don't know how to begin that.

do i need to clear up the files that i have already made? if yes, how Sir?

and if there are other things i need to do to begin BRAND NEW, pls do inform me

Just restart the lesson with Patrick, and you will set stuff up like you did in the first place. Now make sure to go slowly and understand every line of code before you move to the next.
