If you update dataRetrieval (2.7.16 is what is on CRAN, you look to be on 2.7.12), you should get the fix that changes the URL. The original service was moved. |

What is your question?
I have an R script that uses data retrieval commands, have run it successfully in multiple versions for over a year. Last used this exact code a few months ago. Now, the "readNWISgwl" command gives :
Request failed [503]. Retrying in 1.6 seconds...
Request failed [503]. Retrying in 1 seconds...
long list of site numbers here
Service Unavailable (HTTP 503).
All other dataRetreival commands in the script work
To Reproduce
here is the query, it reads a sequence of usgs well numbers from a data frame
dwl <- readNWISgwl(siteNumbers = ul$USGS_IDn, # change dates as necessary
startDate = "2023-11-01",
endDate = "2024-03-01")
Expected behavior
return the discrete water level data at these wells for the time interval given
